Rebels Cage Lions, 8-1

DRESDEN (April 30) — The McKenzie High School Rebels made the short trip down Highway 22 Tuesday to wrap up the regular season with a non-district baseball contest against the Dresden Lions. The Rebels were dominant on both sides of the ball, but didn’t put the game away until a big seventh inning sealed an 8-1 win.
McKenzie struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. The score held until each team plated a lone run in the sixth, then the Rebels pulled away with five in the top of the seventh.
Rebel West Cook was 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. Luke Bennett was 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Evan Jarrett was 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Murphy Watkins was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Jake McDaniel was 2-for-4 with a double. Chase Colotta was 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Phillip Smith was 1-for-4. Tyler Spivey was 0-for-1 with a walk, a run scored and two stolen bases.

Lion Divers Lockhart was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Huston Smethwick was 1-for-2. Zach Crawford was 1-for-3 with a stolen base. Matthew Parker was 1-for-3.
Chase Daffron earned the win for McKenzie, allowing no runs on one hit while striking out ten and walking one in four innings. Luke Bennett threw the final three frames, allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out five and walking none.
Trevor Moore took the loss for Dresden, allowing two earned runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking none in three innings. Brenton Glover threw three and two-thirds innings of relief, allowing five earned runs on six hits while striking out three and walking one. Will Lewellan pitched the final third of an inning, allowing one earned run on one hit while striking out one and walking one.
