Rebels Win on Senior Day

Posted

The Rebel golfers celebrated the last home match for five 2019 graduating seniors by sweeping both the ladies and gentlemen’s matches over Gleason and South Fulton on Monday, September 17th, at Carroll Lake Golf Club.

Coach Smith recognized seniors Ben Austin, Mallory Cole, Julie French, Will McBride, and Olivia Wright prior to the match starting and thanked them for their participation and contribution to the Rebel golf program during their time at MHS.

The ladies were led by Maggie Glass’ 41 and Julie French’s 45. Seniors Mallory Cole and Olivia Wright shot 47 and 48 respectively in their final match at home. Also noteworthy is freshman Jayden Tucker, who shot her best round of the season with a 55. Coach Smith referenced Tucker’s hard work this season in getting better and that hard work was resonating to her improved play and now looking like a golfer. The 86 team total was well ahead of their opponents.

The gentlemen secured their wins led by Nathan Nanney’s 3 over par 39. Johnathan Moore added a 40, with Logan Green and Ben Austin both shooting 41, in Austin’s last home match. Senior Will McBride shot 46 in his last home match for the Rebels. The gentlemen also had widespread margins of victory. Noteworthy for the gentlemen’s team is that they didn’t lose a 9 hole match the entire regular season.

The ladies are now 35-8-2, with the gentlemen at 51-5. Next up is the District 14 tournament at Persimmon Hills in Sharon Monday the 24th for the gentlemen and Tuesday, the 25th, for the ladies. The top 3 teams move on to the Region the following week.

If you see any of these seniors or other team members, thank them for representing our school and community with class and pride both on and off the course.
