Rotarians Learn About Air Evac

Posted

McKenzie Rotarians learned about the services and subscription model of AirEvac Lifeteam and its fleet of air ambulances stationed in the geographic area.
Rick Perry, the local membership sales manager, spoke to Rotarians on Tuesday, October 16 as a guest of Rotary member Bob Denison.
Perry said the AirMedCare Network is the largest in the nation and has bases in Martin, Paris, and Troy, which are some of the busiest of the 300 bases in the states. Generally, severe trauma patients are transported to Nashville or Memphis while many of the cardiac patients are transported to St. Thomas in Nashville. If the patient is in the hospital, generally the attending physician will determine the destination hospital for the patient.
The closing of McKenzie Regional Hospital has spurred an interest in air ambulance service in this area, said Perry. The typical aircraft has a pilot, paramedic, and nurse on board. Most insurance will pay a portion of the cost for transportation by air. The minimum cost is typically $50,000.
