GLEASON, Tenn. — Russell Lovett, 93, of Gleason died on August 7, 2018 at McKenzie Healthcare and Rehab. Funeral services were at McKenzie Church of Christ on Saturday, August 11, 2018. Burial will follow in Rushing Memorial Cemetery in Gleason. Williams Funeral Home of Gleason had charge of services.
Russell was born on October 22, 1924 to the late James Earl and Mattie Lou (James) Lovett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Earl Lovett, and his wife of 67 years, Margie Mildred “Polly” Lovett. 
He is survived by a brother, two daughters, two grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. They include Carney (Martha) Lovett, Pat (Jerry) Sawyers and Paula Lovett, Nicole Sawyers Chamblee and Rusty (Melanie) Sawyers, Jayden Green, Ava, Kade, and Cooper Sawyers and Addy, Evan, and Jude Chamblee.
After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Russell dropped out of school to join the Army. He served in Northern Africa, Sicily, and Italy. When he was in his eighties, he received his high school diploma from the Weakley County Tech School. 
Russell was a hard-working and caring Christian. He never wanted to be a bother to anyone. He always tried to do his best whether it was working, serving his country, or carrying the Olympic torch at the age of 76. He will be missed by his family and friends.+
