UT Martin to Offer Sign Language Course

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin will offer beginning sign language classes March 2-April 6 on the UT Martin main campus.

A beginning course will be offered from 3-5 p.m., March 2, 9 and 16. The registration cost is $45. The class will introduce students to deaf culture and focus on the alphabet, numbers one-19 and more than 200 signs.

An advanced course will be offered from 2-4 p.m., March 23 and 30 and April 6. The registration cost is also $45. The class will review content from the first course and introduce 200 additional signs. It will focus on the use of signs and facial expressions to describe and identify people, ask and answer yes/no questions, increase speed and accuracy when fingerspelling words up to five letters, and sign and recognize numbers 21-100.

You do not have to be a UT Martin student to enroll in non-degree programs. To register, visit utm.edu/nondegree and select “General Classes.”
