McKENZIE (December 29, 2018) — A McKenzie man has been charged with multiple offenses following a Saturday collision at the intersection of State Route 22 and Thompson Road near the Carroll County Airport.
According to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report, Bryan Wuersch, 42, of McKenzie was driving a 2009 Toyota Camry east on Thompson Road approaching S.R. 22., failed to stop at a stop sign and pulled out into the path of a 2013 Nissan Frontier traveling south on S.R. 22 and driven by William Scammerhorn, 74, of Paris. Wuersch’s Camry struck Scammerhorn’s Frontier on the driver’s side, and both vehicles came to final rest in the intersection approximately 20 feet off of the roadway.
There were no passengers in either vehicle. Both drivers were listed as injured, but an AirEvac helicopter on site was not utilized.
Also responding to the incident were the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, the Carroll County Rescue Squad, the Carroll County Fire Department and Baptist Ambulance.
The report indicates that alcohol was a factor in the accident, and Wuersch was charged with DUI, Driving on Revoked, Failure to Yield and Disregard of Signal/Sign.
The southbound lanes of S.R. 22 were closed briefly.
