McKENZIE (January 12) — Robye Lindsey celebrated her 97th birthday on Friday, January 12. The resident of Lakeside Senior Living Community was surprised with a proclamation by McKenzie Mayor Ryan Griffin and a special visit by her sons, Keith and Tim. more
Ryan French of McKenzie is the new sergeant over Henderson County. The McKenzie native and current resident will lead the team of THP officers in that county. more
The State Review Board of the Tennessee Historical Commission is meeting Wednesday, January 24, to discuss eight sites from across the state that may be placed on The National Register of Historic Places. Of those eight nominees, McKenzie’s historic Webb School is one of those to be discussed. more
McKENZIE (January 15) — Carroll County school children won’t see the inside of a classroom until at least Friday of this week due to inclement weather. Carroll County schools announced Monday that schools are closed Tuesday through Thursday; a determination about Friday classes will be made later in the week. As of Monday, Weakley County schools announced closings for Tuesday and Wednesday. Henry County schools will be closed Tuesday. more
HUNTINGDON (January 4) — United States Senator Marsha Blackburn made a stop Thursday afternoon in Huntingdon as part of her 95 counties tour. Senator Blackburn’s stop in Carroll County was at the manufacturing plant of Dynamix Casting Fluxes. Local government officials with employees of the plant met with the senator. more
McKENZIE (December 19) — On Tuesday, the McKenzie Rotary paid homage to Dr. Walter Butler, retiring president of Bethel University. Rotary President Jason R. Martin thanked Dr. Butler not only for his service to Bethel University but also to McKenzie, Carroll County and especially to Rotary. more
McKENZIE/Henry County (December 21) — Kansas-based steel fabricator to invest $6.5 million in Northwest Tennessee, create nearly 20 new jobs in McKenzie. more
McKENZIE (December 21) — Approximately 25 children in the McKenzie community will have a merry Christmas, thanks to the efforts of the McKenzie Police Department and McKenzie Fire/Rescue Department. more
McKENZIE — Wednesday, December 20 was the date set for the Tennessee College of Applied Technology - McKenzie Class of 2023 Fall Graduation. Commencement exercises began at 1 p.m. at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 16835 Highland Drive, McKenzie. The keynote speaker was Mr. Joe Norval, principal and CTE director of the Carroll County Technical Center. more
GLEASON (December 22) — After 50 years of service with the Bank of Gleason, Martha Arnold will step aside as president and serve in a consulting role. December 31, 2023, will be her last day as president and Preston Frazier will move into the role. Martha has served in this role since 2011, when at that time she became the first female President of the Bank of Gleason. more
McKENZIE (December 12) — David Johnson might be described as a renaissance man with his many talents as a writer, vocalist, therapist, teacher, and music minister. Some know him for the leader and founder of the David Johnson Chorus, others for his longtime service as a music minister at McKenzie Church of Christ. But lately, Johnson has plied his talents as prolific write of books and novels. more
PARIS (December 15) — After 43 years in law enforcement, Lieutenant Gary Vandiver has retired. Sheriff Josh Frey said, “It’s very much a loss for the sheriff’s office. His desire and expertise, especially in working in child abuse cases, is invaluable. But fortunately, he passed that knowledge on to so many others at the sheriff’s office. He’s leaving us in good hands.” more
This year McKenzie Elementary School celebrated the spirit of giving by creating care packages for local nursing homes. The students made cards and helped to create care packages as a way of learning how to give back to others. more
McKENZIE (December 9) — On Saturday, Hometown Health Clinic hosted the free community event “A Very Merry Hometown Christmas” and held a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the opening of its newly renovated pediatric center. The event provided children with a chance to get their last-minute gift requests into Santa Claus along with a petting zoo, gift shoppe, a food truck and giveaways to Santa’s lucky little ones. more
