McKENZIE (June 1) — Members of the McKenzie Rotary Club met at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, June 1. The program was presented by Dr. Keith Herris, a Rotary member and the organist at the church. more
The McKenzie Farmers’ Market had a record-breaking attendance for opening day, Saturday, June 5. Over 300 people browsed the 15 vendors who were selling everything from pies and cakes to bee traps, hand-woven baskets, beef, tomatoes, lettuce, and squash. The produce went fast and we encourage customers looking for produce to arrive early until it is more plentiful in the season. more
Bella Batton, 9, and Lola Batton, 7, daughters of Josefina and Chad Batton, are participating in the Miss Tennessee Volunteer Pageant as Iris Princesses. Bella, the Royal Miss International-West Tennessee Sweetheart, is Emma Martin’s Iris Princess, and Lola, 2021 Little Miss McKenzie, is the Iris Princess for Kelsi Walters, Miss Knoxville. Over the past year, Bella and Lola have contributed to their McKenzie community by sewing blankets for newborn babies and working with their church to distribute prepared meals to shut-ins during the COVID-19 quarantine. Bella will also compete in the Little Miss Tennessee Volunteer Pageant in Jackson on Saturday, June 19. Both sisters will compete in Orlando, Florida, this July for the title of Royal International Miss, where they are both excited to get dressed up in “pretty gowns” and meet new friends. This pageant will be livestreamed on the Royal International Miss website. more
Jayne-Shaye Bailey, 21, from Gleason, Tennessee, is Miss Bethel University at the Miss Tennessee Volunteer Pageant in Jackson, Tennessee. Jayne-Shaye, the daughter of Randy and Kelle Bailey, is contestant number two in the pageant. Jayne graduated from Gleason High School in 2018 and attends Bethel University, where she is double majoring in biology and nursing. She is also a cheerleader for Bethel University. more
Emma Martin, 20, from McKenzie, Tennessee, is competing in the Miss Tennessee Volunteer Pageant in Jackson as Miss McNairy County, a title she won in January of 2020. Emma Martin, number 26 in the pageant, is the daughter of Jessica Martin and graduated from McKenzie High School in 2019. She is a junior at Bethel University, where she majors in business management. more
JACKSON — Two Bethel University students and their iris princesses are competing in a premier scholarship pageant next week in Jackson, Tennessee. Local contestants include Bethel’s Emma Martin and Jayne-Shaye Bailey in the Miss Tennessee Volunteer Pageant, and McKenzie’s Bella Batton and Kinsley Wilson in the Little Miss Tennessee Volunteer and Pre-Teen Miss Tennessee Volunteer Pageants. Emma and Jayne-Shaye competed in preliminary pageants and earned the privilege of competing with young ladies from across the state. They will also compete against McKenzie Bryant, a recent graduate of Bethel University. Bryant is a native of Houston County. more
The McKenzie Farmers’ Market opens Saturday, June 5 at 8 a.m. Many of the regular vendors from last year will be at the downtown market, located at the intersection of Cedar and Waldran streets.  more

Amanda Paschall, Carroll County 4-H Agent, received the George S. Foster outstanding 4-H agent award and the Specialty Award State Winner for Excellence in Peer Professional Development at the 2021 Tennessee Association of Extension 4-H Workers annual conference this year in Murfreesboro. The George S. Foster Award is a recognition that 4-H workers receive for outstanding work as related to the overall 4-H program, including project work, judging team participation, junior and teen leadership programs, adult leadership programs, sponsorship and recognition, senior 4-H program, community service programs, innovative 4-H programs, and association participation. more

McKENZIE — The all-purpose field at McKenzie Park has a new scoreboard, thanks to the support of three sponsors and the City of McKenzie. Maddox Insurance, Carroll Bank and Trust and Tosh Farms helped purchase the new scoreboard. more
HUNTINGDON (May 13) — Hexpol Rubber Compounding of Huntingdon held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, May 13 at its new Huntingdon facility. The Huntingdon plant started as Associated Rubber and is now owned by Hexpol, a manufacturer with 17 domestic sites and 52 worldwide. more
