McKENZIE (April 13) — The April monthly meeting of the City of McKenzie Board of Mayor and Council had a light agenda. Parks and Recreation Director Billy Hollowell stated the City’s pickleball court is moving closer to completion. The surface has been poured along with the necessary striping. By mid-May, the court should have had enough time to cure and then netting will be installed. more

HUNTINGDON (April 10) — During Monday’s April meeting of the Carroll County Commission, the legislative body was addressed by Lori Dillahunty representing the Carroll County Inclusion Park. Dillahunty spoke passionately about the need and the advantages of constructing the park. Through Resolution 4-06-2023, the county pledged $400,000 of American Rescue Plan Act Funds. The estimated cost of construction is between $725,000 and $750,000. more

HUNTINGDON (April 1) — Pam Tillis delighted the audience at The Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center on Saturday with her intimate three-lady band. Tillis provided the music that made her famous and had fun interacting with the audience. Known for her gold records and the daughter of famed Mel Tillis, Pam enjoys performing at age 65. more
McKENZIE (April 7) — The annual Bake Sale for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life is complete after five days of a live, call-in auction on WHDM radio. Unofficially, the event grossed an estimated $15,899. more
Lifeline Blood Services collected 47 units of blood during the McKenzie High School Blood Drive on Wednesday, March 29. more
GUATEMALA CITY — Six Bethel University students helped ensure Guatemalan children had healthy smiles March 5-11 as part of a Global Studies collaboration with Cumberland Presbyterian missionaries. Led by Stacie Freeman, director of Bethel’s international outreach, and fellow co-founder of a new nonprofit for student-staffed travel service projects, Julie Hill, the trip included a mix of compassionate ministry and culture-sharing. more
McKENZIE (April 1) — McKenzie Band held its annual beauty revues for students in McKenzie Special School District. The competition included competition in six categories. The event was in the McKenzie High School Theatre. The winners ranged in age from 4 to 18 and are pictured. more
PURYEAR (March 28) — Representatives of Paris BPU, Silicon Ranch and Tennessee Valley Authority gathered in Puryear at the new 6.75-megawatt solar farm for a ‘flip the switch’ event to symbolically turn on the power the 20,410 solar panels (modules) in 230 rows that span 80 acres. more
McKENZIE (April 1) — Friday evening’s severe weather did not hamper Saturday’s Easter egg drop at McKenzie City Park. Thousands of children and their parents gathered at the park to partake in the McKenzie Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Easter Egg Drop. Members of the chamber along with vendors and volunteers from the community, McKenzie High School and Bethel University came together to make the event a resounding success. more
Bethel University’s production of Disney’s Freaky Friday continues this weekend. On March 31, 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 1 at 2 and 7 p.m., Bethel Renaissance will perform the musical about a mother and daughter who switch roles. School-aged students are invited to a mid-week performance. The production is in the former Cumberland Presbyterian Church building on Stonewall Street. more
McKENZIE — Members of the Carroll County Humane Society volunteered their services to wait tables for tips to benefit the animals under their care at the local animal shelter. The Society members work tirelessly to provide food, shelter, and health services to dogs and cats - some abandoned. They rely heavily on donations. more
McKENZIE (March 21) — John Tucker, CEO of Henry County Medical Center, was the speaker at the Rotary Club of McKenzie on March 21. Tucker told club members of recent changes at the hospitals, its services, and challenges for rural hospitals. more
McKENZIE (MARCH 22) — The number of candidates for the director of McKenzie Special School District was narrowed to five from seven during the March 22 workshop meeting of the Board of Education. Seven candidates were individually interviewed in a brief 15- to 30-minute interview in front of the seven members of the Board. more
McKENZIE — A new mural is in development on the side of the Park Theatre in downtown McKenzie. more
Clarksburg welcomed a new business on Saturday, March 18, with the relocation and grand opening of Freedom Gunworks, LLC. Randy and Rachel Comeau have operated the business from their home for the past year. more
McKENZIE (March 18) — Prompalooza was Saturday, March 18. 1 to 5 p.m. to offer girls’ and boys’ prom attire for free to high school students throughout Carroll County. more
HUNTINGDON — The Dixie Performing Arts Center hosted its second-annual Designing Women Curated Market, which highlights female-owned businesses across the state of Tennessee, Friday, March 17, and Saturday, March 18. The Designing Women Curated Market was birthed from the influence of Dixie Carter in her female-empowered role in the popular television show “Designing Women.” more
