As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, many families in communities today face increased hardship. Hunger and poverty, already at unacceptable levels, are affecting children at an alarming rate, and the hunger that kids face today has the power to impact the rest of their lives. more

McKENZIE (January 19) — Bethel University’s 2021 nursing program graduates achieved a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX licensing exam, the university announced Friday. more

A good group of McKenzie basketball alumni players and cheerleaders going back to 1995 participated in an Alumni basketball game sponsored by the McKenzie Rebounders Club. A good crowd witnessed a competitive contest ending in a 46-46 tie. more
McKenzie Special School District Board of Education meets Tuesday, February 1, 5:30 p.m. at 114 Bell Avenue. On the agenda is the reconsideration for approval of debt to construct a multi-purpose facility at McKenzie High School. In January, a voice vote of the four members in attendance approved up to $4.5 million in debt to construct the facility. Three of the members were absent. Also on the agenda are a proposed change to the school calendar to make March 17 a regular school day and the second and final readings on graduation activities and requirements for special education students. more
Bethel University students began their spring semester classes Monday, January 10 after a five-week winter break. There was no class Monday, January 17, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Spring break is March 7-11, and classes are out April 15 for Easter Holiday. April 29 is the last day of classes, and students will take their final exams May 2-6. Commencement is May 7. more
West Carroll’s School Board met for its regular monthly session on Thursday, January 13 with plenty of business having not met since November. more

Five McKenzie High School ladies were selected to serve as the 2022 Basketball Homecoming Court. One will be crowned queen Friday, January 14 at 5:30 p.m. in the McKenzie High School Gymnasium. more
In December, the University of Tennessee at Martin announced its 2021 fall Chancellor’s Honor Roll. To be recognized on the Chancellor’s Honor Roll at UT Martin, a student must take at least 12 credit hours (not including pass-fail courses) and achieve a 3.2 (B) GPA based on a 4.0 scale for the semester. more
In December, Bethel University published its fall 2021 Honor Roll and Dean’s List. To qualify for the Honor Roll, undergraduates must have completed twelve or more hours of academic work with an average GPA of 3.7 or above and no grade lower than a “C.” Area students who placed on the Honor Roll include: more

McKENZIE (December 4) — Bethel University hosted a traditional commencement ceremony with some COVID-19 safety protocols. A total of 427 persons graduated during the morning ceremonies at the Crisp Arena. Dr. Kimberly Martin, Vice-President-Vice President of Bethel’s College of Professional Studies was the featured speaker. more

Aden Hutcherson, a senior at Huntingdon High School, is one of two Tennessee high school seniors to be honored with a Heisman High School Scholarship. This program honors the nation’s most accomplished, community-minded high school senior athletes. Defined by leadership and impact, the program aims to inspire all students to harness their potential, push their limits, and use their talents not only to advance their own futures, but to improve the communities and world around them. more
