McKENZIE (December 4) — Bethel University hosted a traditional commencement ceremony with some COVID-19 safety protocols. A total of 427 persons graduated during the morning ceremonies at the Crisp Arena. Dr. Kimberly Martin, Vice-President-Vice President of Bethel’s College of Professional Studies was the featured speaker. more

Aden Hutcherson, a senior at Huntingdon High School, is one of two Tennessee high school seniors to be honored with a Heisman High School Scholarship. This program honors the nation’s most accomplished, community-minded high school senior athletes. Defined by leadership and impact, the program aims to inspire all students to harness their potential, push their limits, and use their talents not only to advance their own futures, but to improve the communities and world around them. more
GLEASON (November 16) — The playing surface at Gleason School’s basketball gymnasium has a new name, “Randy Frazier Court” in honor of the former coach. more
McKENZIE (November 11) — Area veterans were the guests of honor at McKenzie High School at the annual Veterans Day Ceremony at the school. Garrett Burns, a chaplain with the Navy, was the featured speaker. Burns was an Arkansas native, Bethel University graduate, former youth minister at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and now serves as associate chaplain at his alma mater, Bethel. He and wife, Jessica, have four children. more
Duane Patrick, a McKenzie High School student, is a national finalist in the QuestBridge National College Match Program. more
Andrew Cole and Shannan Cheney-Andrew represented McKenzie High School at the Rising Star Leadership Conference on November 4-5, 2021 at the University of Tennessee at Martin. more
McKENZIE — McKenzie High School BETA provided two small library cases on the former campus of Webb School. One is near the school’s main entrance. Renee Hobson of Two Sisters and a Book welcomed the young ladies when they placed the first books in the box last week. more
West Carroll School Board members tried something new at their monthly session Thursday, November 4. In an effort to go paperless, board members along with the school director were provided access to Chromebooks which had their agenda and other information needed to conduct their meeting. The paperless project is being spearheaded by Brittany Foster who gave instructions for accessing their materials at the start of the meeting. more
McKenzie and West Carroll High Schools have planned Veterans’ Day programs for this week. McKenzie’s program begins at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 11, with several students reading historical documents and poems. The band will play several patriotic and military style pieces. The keynote speaker will be Garrett Burns. more
As part of the annual Fall Festival at McKenzie Elementary School, a costume contest was held for grade levels and families. more
McKENZIE (October 23) — McKenzie Elementary School held its annual Fall Fest at the school on Saturday, October 23. There fun and games on the front sidewalk, in the hallways, and in the cafeteria along with a costume contest. more
The West Carroll School Board met Tuesday, October 19, for their monthly session with several items to discuss and vote on. more
The Huntingdon School Board approved a change in the bid to replace the roof on Huntingdon High School during their meeting on October 21. They voted to rescind the old bid approved in August and accept the new bid from another company after a brief presentation by Jim Atkins who represents Lashlee-Rich contractors. The old company couldn’t guarantee their price after a certain date which precipitated the change. The new construction company guaranteed a maximum price of $609,000 which is a $10,000 increase over the old price. The project entails removing the top layers of the roof down to the insulation and adding a new layer of insulation on top of the old insulation and a top membrane. more
Bethel alumni, friends, and supporters will celebrate Homecoming at Bethel University on November 1-7 on the Bethel University home campus in McKenzie. The events include basketball, football, volleyball, a decades reunion, alumni softball game, bonfire, tailgating, Sports Hall of Fame breakfast, and performances by Renaissance Theatre. The event culminates with worship on Sunday at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. more
McKENZIE (October 18) — Allegion’s McKenzie Operations (Republic Doors & Frames) will host two virtual field trips for area students Wednesday, Oct. 20, joining the National Association of Manufacturers to celebrate National Manufacturing Day and Manufacturing Month – with the overall goal of inspiring the next generation of manufacturers. more
McKENZIE (October 8) — McKenzie Fire and Rescue visited McKenzie Elementary School to provide a demonstration in fire prevention in honor of Fire Prevention week. more
McKenzie Elementary School hosted its annual Walk to School Day on October 6. A total of 257 students and 133 parents participated. They either walked from home or parked within blocks of the school and walked the remainder of the way. more
The annual McKenzie Elementary Fall Fest King and Queen candidates are listed below. Each of the students are raising money for their school in hopes to become the MES Fall Fest King or Queen. The student who raises the most money earns the designation. more
