In 1999, the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce began sponsoring the Youth Leadership Carroll County (YLCC) program. Since that time, more than 570 students have graduated from YLCC. The classes are comprised of class members from each Carroll County high school. The program is made up of four sessions, two in the fall and two in the winter. more

The Paris-Henry County Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with multiple partners for the annual Tennessee River Jam. The four day music festival starts Thursday, June 1 and runs through Sunday, June 4 in Paris and Henry County. more
HUNTINGDON (March 4) — The Carroll County Democratic Party will hold a Reorganization Convention to elect new leaders on Tuesday March 21, 2023. The meeting will take place at the Municipal Building located at 1274 Lexington Street, Huntingdon, Tenn. Doors will open for registration and credentials at 6 p.m. Convention starts at 7 p.m. and doors closed at 7 p.m. more
The Inglenook Book Club met on March 8 at the Lakeside Senior Living Community in McKenzie with 22 members attending. President Carolyn Moore called the meeting to order and thanked hostesses Jean McKinnie and Genia Sherwood for the delicious cake, mixed nuts, chocolates and assorted beverages. The Pledge of Allegiance, Club Aim and Club Motto were recited and March birthdays were recognized for Jean McKinnie, Suzanne Howell and Genia Sherwood. more
McKENZIE — A team of 25 students from Bethel University’s Physician Assistant (PA) program, along with four Bethel employees, recently returned from a week-long medical mission trip in Belize. more
The Bank of Gleason honored Martha Arnold for 50 years of service with an Open House on Friday, March 10. Friends and family members filtered in all day to congratulate Arnold and enjoy cake and punch. “Over all these years, it’s the people that have made all the difference. I’ve come to cherish each and every one of them,” said Arnold. more

McKENZIE (March 7) — Twenty-five McKenzie High School students were allowed to tour the Cachengo facility at the former hospital building in McKenzie. The students were invited to the facility by Cachengo CEO, Ash Young. Members of the Young family and technicians of Cachengo explained the technology company’s mission of providing high-end data storage systems to meet global demands for Edge Computing, Machine Learning (ML), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) by replacing the over-use of single, large CPUs with several smaller ones, embedded in each drive to perform localized computing where the data actually sits. more
JACKSON — Linda Rizzuto, president of Jackson Area Business and Professional Women, has announced the winners of Sterling Awards 2023: 20 Most Influential Women in West Tennessee, the Outstanding Woman Military Veteran and the Sue Shelton White Award. more
McKENZIE (March 7) — During the Tuesday evening meeting of the McKenzie Special School District Board of Education board members agreed to add cross country to McKenzie High School’s slate of athletic programs. Faculty member Beth Mathis will serve as the coach. more

NASHVILLE (March 6, 2023) — After moderate decreases in pump prices two weeks ago, pump prices across the state saw quite a bit of variation. Today’s state gas price average is three cents higher than last week’s. The Tennessee Gas Price average is now $3.04 which is 15 cents less expensive than one month ago and 77 cents less expensive than one year ago. more
The Milan Lions Club is hosting the 10th Annual Sight Bowl on Thursday, March 9, between the Bulldogs of Milan High School and the defending Class 1A state champions, the McKenzie Rebels. The scrimmage game begins at 5 p.m. at the Johnnie Hale Stadium, 3013 Baird Street, Milan. The Sight Bowl has raised over $10,000 to purchase prescription eye glasses for the less fortunate in the 38358 area code. more

Liberty Dyal, a freshman at McKenzie High School, is a delegate to the Congress of Future Medical Leaders scheduled June 21-23 on the University of Massachusetts Lowell campus, just outside Boston. The Congress is an honors-only program for high school students who want to become physicians or go into medical research fields. The purpose of this event is to honor, inspire, motivate and direct the top students in the country interested in these careers, to stay true to their dream and, after the event, to provide a path, plan and resources to help them reach their goal. more

As he was growing up, there were many teachers and coaches who had a positive impact on Mike Jasper, Head Football Coach at Bethel University, but his mother provided the strongest source of support and encouragement. “Mom used to say ‘by book or by ball or both’ you’re going to succeed,” he recalls with a smile, “she is my hero and played a huge role in my life as a mom, a dad and an inspiration.” more
