McKENZIE — Carroll County Relay For Life’s Cancer Bake Auction begins Monday, March 25, and continues through Good Friday, March 29. Air time on WHDM radio is 1 p.m. until all items are sold each day. Each year, area bakers provide delicious delicacies to auction. The items are auctioned over the radio. To bid, listen to the radio and phone 731-358-3663, 731-358-2511, or 731-358-3931 and give the phone operator the item and bid price. The winners of the items can pick up those items at the McKenzie Church of Christ Fellowship Hall. Donated items are accepted at the Church of Christ beginning at 7:30 a.m. daily. Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society. more

HUNTINGDON (March 13) — Sixty years of private law practice and no intention of retiring. W. Kent Jones has been a central figure in Carroll County, serving clients in all aspects of legal practice. That’s something in which he takes great pride. But one of his favorite joys is talking about his many years of serving as the radio announcer of high school and college sports, a passion that started as a senior at McKenzie High School when he worked as a disc jockey for WHDM radio. more

TENNESSEE — Average gasoline prices in Tennessee have risen 6.2 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.06/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,821 stations in Tennessee. Prices in Tennessee are 22.2 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 8.5 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 1.3 cents in the last week and stands at $4.02 per gallon. more

ATWOOD (March 7) — West Carroll Special School District launched a new phone app and upgraded its website to better serve the stakeholder of the school system. Michelle Robinson, who headed the project, displayed the newly available phone app, that will provide a central point of communications for teachers, students and parents. Robinson said the app and upgraded website will consolidate communications for the school system. more
NASHVILLE — Today, the Tennessee Department of Education announced state school and district designations for the 2022-23 school year, including Reward schools, Exemplary districts, and In Need of Improvement districts. These designations are based on various performance indicators, including student achievement and growth. more
