McKENZIE (April 4) — One hundred-thirteen students were honored during the 38th annual Honors Banquet hosted by the Rotary Club of McKenzie. The students, grades 9 to 12, were seated at floor level at the McKenzie High School Gymnasium while their parents and friends were seated on the home side in the bleachers. more

McKENZIE (April 4) — Lynn Watkins, director of McKenzie Special School District, is retiring on June 30. During the April 4 meeting of the Board of Education, Watkins offered to serve as a consultant to the yet-to-be-selected director of schools, whose term of office begins July 1. more

GUATEMALA CITY — Six Bethel University students helped ensure Guatemalan children had healthy smiles March 5-11 as part of a Global Studies collaboration with Cumberland Presbyterian missionaries. Led by Stacie Freeman, director of Bethel’s international outreach, and fellow co-founder of a new nonprofit for student-staffed travel service projects, Julie Hill, the trip included a mix of compassionate ministry and culture-sharing. more
McKENZIE (April 1) — McKenzie Band held its annual beauty revues for students in McKenzie Special School District. The competition included competition in six categories. The event was in the McKenzie High School Theatre. The winners ranged in age from 4 to 18 and are pictured. more
PURYEAR (March 28) — Representatives of Paris BPU, Silicon Ranch and Tennessee Valley Authority gathered in Puryear at the new 6.75-megawatt solar farm for a ‘flip the switch’ event to symbolically turn on the power the 20,410 solar panels (modules) in 230 rows that span 80 acres. more
CARROLL COUNTY (April 3) — Twelve high school seniors from Carroll County were recognized by the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce for their academic excellence by scoring a 29 or better on the national ACT test. The Carroll County Chamber hosted a luncheon on April 3 at Mallard’s Restaurant to honor these students. more

The Macedonia Family and Community Education (FCE) Club held its March meeting at the Macedonia Community Center with six members present. President Martha Peters called the meeting to order and read the thought for the day by Charles Peacock. It reminded everyone that March is National Craft Month and to remember it is not just about the creativity, it is about the person you are becoming while you are creating. The creed was recited in unison and roll call was answered by the question ‘What do-it-yourself, art or craft project are you most proud of making?’ more
Bethel University’s production of Disney’s Freaky Friday continues this weekend. On March 31, 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 1 at 2 and 7 p.m., Bethel Renaissance will perform the musical about a mother and daughter who switch roles. School-aged students are invited to a mid-week performance. The production is in the former Cumberland Presbyterian Church building on Stonewall Street. more
McKENZIE — Members of the Carroll County Humane Society volunteered their services to wait tables for tips to benefit the animals under their care at the local animal shelter. The Society members work tirelessly to provide food, shelter, and health services to dogs and cats - some abandoned. They rely heavily on donations. more
McKENZIE (March 21) — John Tucker, CEO of Henry County Medical Center, was the speaker at the Rotary Club of McKenzie on March 21. Tucker told club members of recent changes at the hospitals, its services, and challenges for rural hospitals. more
