MARTIN (January 2022) — Andrea Ferguson Harrington was appointed as the new manager of the Weakley County Municipal Electric System. The system’s board of directors selected her to replace Faron Collins, who is retiring after 45 years at the job.

Through a partnership with the Carroll County Government, the Huntingdon Elks Lodge, the United Way, the Governor’s Books from Birth program, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Gamma Theta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, and the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, Carroll County children up to five years old can receive free books monthly from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program.

Bethel University students began their spring semester classes Monday, January 10 after a five-week winter break. There was no class Monday, January 17, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Spring break is March 7-11, and classes are out April 15 for Easter Holiday. April 29 is the last day of classes, and students will take their final exams May 2-6. Commencement is May 7.

Mrs. Wilma Pearson, “born and reared” in Henry, Tenn., holds preaching and helping others close to her heart. Over time, Mrs. Pearson has received the Knoxville Department Bronze Woman of the Year, the Appreciation Award, the third runner-up Queen of Elks, the Outstanding Award as Concerned Citizen, and the Woodmen of the World Hometown Hero award, among several others.

PARIS — Samuel David Gilbert was born at 4:51 p.m. on Monday, January 3, becoming the first baby born at Henry County Medical Center in 2022. Samuel, who is the son of Bill and Tara Gilbert of Camden, TN arrived weighing 8 pounds, 1 ounce and was 19 inches long.

In December, the University of Tennessee at Martin announced its 2021 fall Chancellor’s Honor Roll. To be recognized on the Chancellor’s Honor Roll at UT Martin, a student must take at least 12 credit hours (not including pass-fail courses) and achieve a 3.2 (B) GPA based on a 4.0 scale for the semester.

On New Year’s Day, Annias Haney participated in the 2022 Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, California. Haney, the assistant director of Humboldt High School Band, marched as a part of the Gibson County Mass Band representing Tennessee. The Gibson County Mass Band includes students from Humboldt, Peabody, Milan, South Gibson, and Gibson County high school bands.
