The McKenzie City Council meets Thursday, April 11. On the agenda is an amendment to the Fireworks Ordinance concerning age and purchase times. The purposed sale dates fireworks within the City Limits would be on a seasonal basis from June 20 through July 5 and December 20 through January 1. With an allowance date to shot the fireworks off from June 27 through July 5, and from December 25th through January 1. The fireworks can be shot until 10 p.m., except for December 31st when they shall be allowed until 1:00 a.m. Adding to the amendment is to make it unlawful to sale to children under the age of 18 or to any intoxicated person. The purposed changes will be discussed during at 5:30 p.m. workshop before the Council meeting. more
The West Carroll Special School District held its monthly meeting last Thursday, where they recognized Junior Hannah Fowler as she will go through the Tennessee Governor’s School of Agriculture Science at the University of Tennessee at Martin this summer. Fowler will attend a four-week program for high school juniors and seniors to experience various aspects of agriculture and natural resources both in the classroom and through hands-on learning both on and off campus at UTM and will receive three hours college credit. more

McKENZIE (April 5) — McKenzie Special School District announced McKenzie High School has promoted Dru Emerson to head coach for the Lady Rebels Basketball team. Coach Emerson was the assistant coach this past season, and has extensive coaching experience prior to joining the Rebels’ staff. Emerson was head varsity boys coach at Carroll Academy from 2020-2023 and was a 2020 TSSAA A.F. Bridges Divisional Finalist. more
The shooting happened at approximately midnight in the 400 block of Travis Road. Deputies from the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department and officers from the Martin Police Department had responded to the area on a report of a stolen vehicle that had been set on fire. Information gathered during their investigation led them to the home of 44-year-old Bobby Dickens, a resident in the area. more
McKENZIE (April 1) — The McKenzie Special School District announces McKenzie High School has hired Keith Hodge as head football coach. Hodge is the 2023 Dresden football coach that blemished the Rebels’ undefeated regular season. Both teams met in the semi-final with the Rebels advancing to the state championship game. more
NASHVILLE — The County of Carroll has requested two changes in its form of government. In February, the Carroll County Commission voted to request a reduction in the number of road supervisors and also to convert to centralized accounting - one accounting department for all the county’s operations. more

PARIS (March 28) — Jeremy Pate was honored for 25 years of safe driving with United Parcel Service during a brief ceremony at the Paris Tennessee distribution center. Pate, a McKenzie resident, his wife Gina, and girls, Emma, Sydney and Lydia were in attendance. more
The Carroll County Commission meets Monday, April 8 to discuss a significant paving project to be undertaken by the Carroll County Highway Department. more
HUNTINGDON (March 28) — TVA and the Carroll County Electric are funding $40,880 annually for each of the next five years to the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce for economic development services. more
HUNTINGDON (March 26) — Water issues including miscolored water and improper readings of customer water meters were discussed during the Huntingdon Mayor and Town Council meeting on March 26. During the same meeting, the Council approved $1,536,146 in two projects to replace aging water lines and to install all new self-reading water meters. more
HUNTINGDON (March 25) — On Thursday, the Carroll County Budget Committee concluded its second round of annual budget presentations from department directors. Presenting were Sheriff Andy Dickson, Road Supervisors Ronnie Wade and Ricky Scott, School Superintendent Johnny McAdams, Solid Waste Director Jeff Heyduck, Clerk and Master Kenneth Todd, Prevention Coalition Director Heather Foster and Mayor Joseph Butler. more
