McKENZIE (December 18) — McKenzie has moved one step closer to having a Taco Bell franchise. On Wednesday, the McKenzie Regional Planning Commission approved the site plan presented by Excel Engineer for Kari Keller of Pacific Bells, LLC. Regional planner Donny Bunton stated there were five minor issues with the site plan but they were quickly corrected by Keller’s staff.

Thirty-six children from the McKenzie area now have a brighter Christmas, thanks to the collective efforts of the McKenzie Police Department, McKenzie Fire Department, and many individuals who contributed to the second annual Christmas event for the children of the city.

HUNTINGDON (December 9) — After several months of debate, Carroll County officially has a standardized county-wide fire department. On Monday, December 9, the Carroll County Commission voted 19-1 to create the department. The one vote against its creation came from Commissioner Daniel Willman who wanted a more thorough plan moving forward.

NASHVILLE (December 10) — McKenzie’s Tate Surber was honored as Mr. Football for TSSAA Class 1A schools in Tennessee. He was honored by the Tennessee Titans Foundation at Nissan Stadium on Tuesday, December 10 during a luncheon in which the honorees, parents, coaches, and members of the media attended.

McKENZIE (December 12) — Investigator Kyle Beauchamp was recognized in Thursday’s City Council meeting by McKenzie Mayor Ryan Griffin and Police Chief Ryan White for his work to seize an unspecified dollar amount through a money laundering ring. The Tennessee Comptroller’s Office will award the McKenzie Police Department with what is unofficially estimated at over $500,000.

McKENZIE (December 7) — McKenzie is a long way from the sandy beaches of Orange Beach where Dr. Ryan Forbess, his wife, Toni, and three children, Scarlett, Knox, and Reed reside. However, the family traded the warm climate for some Tennessee weather and a chance to lead the annual Christmas parade in the city where Dr. Forbess was raised. The Forbess family also had the honor of lighting the Christmas tree in McKenzie’s Veterans Memorial Park in downtown.
