Urban Trading Company: Small Town, Big Dreams

Posted

Ashley Little, Owner of Urban Trading Company, located on 55 Broadway in McKenzie, has spent the first year in her shop servicing the community with a combination boutique and furniture refurbishing business. Ashley graduated in the top ten of her class at high school from Gleason in 2004 and subsequently graduated from UT Martin with a degree in psychology. Ashley has two children, Morgan, 14 and Reed 11. They have lived in the McKenzie area for many years.

Ashley is a former employee at McKenzie Medical Center, know now as Hometown Health Clinic. She served in the coding department for several years. During her time at the clinic, she began repurposing furniture as a side job/hobby. The hobby grew quickly into a full-time job, and she opened her store in October 2020. She is servicing the entire area with furniture and boutique needs.

Not long after Ashley opened her store, she saw a need to extend her business to include various classes ranging from candle making to door decorations. This portion of her business is called Urban DIY. This has been a popular extension of her business and the classes most always sell out when offered. She is currently sponsoring several classes per month.

She puts the time in to keep up with the needs and wants of the community. Her business evolves daily to include requests and ideas offered by her clientele. She encourages suggestions from customers and has great enthusiasm for all facets that Urban Trading Company provides. She is currently in the planning stages of adding more classes that include junk to treasure classes, chalk painting classes and small home interior decorating classes. She currently offers staging furniture for parties and weddings. She works hard to service the community in unique and fresh ways.
