HUNTINGDON (November 25) — The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has mailed ballots for the Farm Service Agency (FSA) county committee elections to eligible farmers and ranchers across the country. To be counted, ballots must be returned to the Carroll County FSA office or postmarked by December 2, 2024.

TENNESSEE (November 25) — Average gasoline prices in Tennessee increased 2.2 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.68/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,821 stations in Tennessee.

PARIS — Paris/Henry County officials expressed their excitement for a totally new campus for Tennessee College of Applied Technology -Henry/Carroll to be located at 5215 Highway 218 Bypass, Paris -across from West Wheel and Tire. The Paris campus is a sister campus to McKenzie-based TCAT, located on Highland Drive.

HUNTINGDON (November 19, 21) – After months of back-and-forth discussions, it appears that the Carroll County Government has decided to move towards creating a standardized county-wide rural fire department. On Tuesday, the Rural Fire Committee and the Budget Committee met jointly to discuss the immediate financial needs of the rural fire department. The Fire Committee provided a list of needs/wants roughly estimated at $466,000.

HUNTINGDON (November 20) — On Wednesday, Circuit Judge Donald Parish (retd.) served as the featured storyteller for the Huntingdon Historical Society. Judge Parish’s talk entitled “Three Lawyers Who Practiced in Carroll County That You Have Never Heard Of” focused on three attorneys who cut their teeth in Carroll County; Howell Edmunds Jackson (1859–1920, Milton Brown (1804-1883) and John E. McCall (1859–1920).

The 24th Judicial Drug Court of the Circuit Judge Brent Bradberry, announces its new program director, Israel Melton. Mr. Melton will manage the program for the counties of Carroll, Henry and Benton. The program is in its second year and has been successful thus far.

I don’t want to upset the Thanksgiving apple cart, but let’s be honest here. When I was five years old, I couldn’t find anything to be thankful for. They sent us outside right after daylight so we wouldn’t disrupt the grownups as the ladies prepared the meal and the men gathered in the living room to talk crops, hog prices, and stuff.

ATWOOD (November 19) — West Carroll High School hosted Riverside Tuesday for a pair of Hall of Champion (preseason) basketball contests. The Lady Panthers jumped out to a big lead early en route to a 62-31 win, and the Panthers pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 52-31 victory.

McKENZIE (November 23) — McKenzie High School hosted Greenfield Saturday afternoon for a pair of Hall of Champions (preseason) contests. The short-handed Rebels picked up a gritty first win, 66-63, on the back of Carter Kee’s 33 points. The Lady Yellowjackets leaned heavily on the three for a 61-36 win over the Lady Rebels.

MILAN (November 22) — What promised to be one of the best games in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs stood true to its word. The Huntingdon Mustangs and the Milan Bulldogs took it to the wire with Milan waging a fourth quarter come from behind 28-25 win to advance to the semifinal round.

McKENZIE (November 22) — The road to Chattanooga goes through Memphis for the McKenzie Rebels, who crushed the Richland Raiders 55-7 in Friday night’s TSSAA Football Quarterfinal.
