McKENZIE — A total $14,926 was raised, with more expected to come in, and Carroll County Relay for Life Cancer Bake Auction Organizer Sherrye Washburn said, “We are so excited with the outcome this year. Last year we were really happy and this year Carroll County has come through even better.”

Auctioneers David Jackson and Jason Allison from Long Heights Baptist Church with assistance from Tim McBride started the day with a total of $9941 but with donations today and 18 tables of items the auction raised $14,926 with more donations expected to come in which will help top the $15,000 mark.

Officials especially were thankful to the McKenzie Church of Christ for allowing the use of their fellowship hall all week and to Russell Cellular for loan of three cell phones and the necessary time for use during the auction. Ann Washburn said, “It’d would be impossible for us to have the auction if it weren’t for the church facility and the cell phones to use.”

Several auctioneers from the past and new ones as well assisted with the auction on WHDM radio. WHDM”s sports announcer Craig Lunn was broken in early, along with Long Heights Baptist church Youth Minister Jason Allison, who completed his first stint on Friday.

David Jackson, Kenny McBride, Tim McBride, Chance Steen and Terry Howell kept everything rolling during the five-day event.

Lance Pierce, station manager for WHDM, said, “It was a lot of work for everyone that contributed all the items for the success of the auction but the real heroes are those who spent their money to support the auction. Here at the station, we’re glad to be able to support the effort and want all the sponsors of the broadcast to know how much they mean to us as well. We certainly look forward to next year.”
