McKENZIE (April 22) — Officials at Bethel University announce the university and the City of McKenzie signed a memorandum of understanding to offer full-time city employees a 25% tuition discount in its College of Professional Studies.

“The City of McKenzie is grateful for our long-standing partnership with Bethel University. For many years, Bethel and the City of McKenzie have worked hand-in-hand sharing sports fields and planning city-wide and Bethel festivals and events. Bethel University is such an anchor and attribute to our community, and this Memorandum of Understanding between Bethel and the City to assist our employees in obtaining academic degrees is a huge gift to all our McKenzie City full-time employees. This discounted tuition rate will enable them to obtain various degrees and certifications on higher levels which will enhance their personal and professional development,” said McKenzie Mayor Jill Holland. “This generous gesture from President Butler and the University is greatly appreciated by all of us, and is one more spoke in the wheel which strengthens and unites the connection between Bethel and our community.”

“Bethel University is extremely fortunate to have its main campus in McKenzie, Tennessee. Our relationship with the City of McKenzie and their employees has always been great! Bethel University hopes this will be another way to say ‘Thank You’ to the city employees who support us so much on a daily basis. We hope this will help them achieve more professional development,” said Bethel University President, Dr. Walter Butler.

Bethel University’s College of Professional Studies programs are designed for working adults who need flexibility to earn a degree. Enrolled students can be considered fulltime while taking one class at a time, one night a week, either online or in a classroom setting.

Bethel University is a private, not-for-profit university affiliated with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church located in McKenzie, Tenn. The College of Professional Studies is home to all of Bethel University’s adult degree programs, offering both on-campus and online courses.
