HUNTINGDON (April 2) - U.S. Congressman David Kustoff visited Carroll County on Friday, April 2 at the invitation of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce.
To achieve social distancing, the event was held at the Carroll County Civic Center.
Speaking to approximately 30 attendees, including six from the 2021 Youth Leadership Class, Kustoff spoke about the CARES Act under former President Trump and the American Rescue Plan under President Biden. The Congressman said the CARES Act was very popular and bi-partisan. Biden’s plan was approved only by Democrats and only nine percent of the funds go to COVID relief, said the congressman.
Kustoff voted against Biden’s plan as well as the certification of results of the state-certified results in the 2020 presidential election. Kustoff said the Democrats want to nationalize federal elections, overriding state’s rights.
The congressman said the atmosphere in Washington is toxic, but Kustoff said he tries to “get along.”
He praised legislative and administrative leaders in Tennessee for excellent leadership, especially through the pandemic.
Chamber President Brad Hurley thanked Kustoff for attending the annual Good Friday forum in Carroll County and announced he will return April 15, 2022.
