County Residents Qualify For November 8 Election

As the August 18 qualification deadline nears, more Carroll County candidates have qualified for the November 8 Local Municipal Election.
 
To qualify, candidates must obtain a petition for their office, gather at least 25 signatures, and file the petition with the Carroll County Election Commission. Signatures must be from registered voters eligible to vote in the city or county in which the candidate is seeking office.
 
In the city of McKenzie, voters will elect five offices: one city mayor, three councilpersons at-large for a four-year term, and one councilperson at-large for a two-year unexpired term.
 
Qualifying mayoral candidates are Joshua Wheat Filtz, Ryan Delano Griffin and Mary Jill Holland. Timothy T. McBride obtained  a petition June 22 but has not qualified as of July 27.
 
Bobby L. Young is the only qualifying candidate for councilperson at-large. Other councilperson at large candidates who have obtained a petition are Charles Thomas Alexander, Josefina D. Batton, Verlan James Kliewer and Timothy T. McBride. Carol Jean Armpriest and Gerald David Merchant have obtained petitions for councilman at-large for a four-year term. Steve Watson, Garrett Burns and Bobby Young hold the three councilperson at-large seats up for election.
 
Gerald David Merchant also obtained a petition for councilman at-large for a two-year unexpired term. Charles Thomas Alexander withdrew his petition for this category. The seat was previously held by the late Debbie Riley, who was replaced by Josefina Batton.
 
In McLemoresville, voters will elect one mayor and five alderman, all for four-year terms.
 
As of July 27, there are no candidates for the mayoral position held by Phil Williams.
 
Sharron Dawn Holland is the lone qualifying candidate for City of McLemoresville Alderman. John Thomas Newsome, Jr. and Don T. Reed have also obtained petitions.
 
Voters in Atwood will elect one mayor and two aldermen, all for four-year terms.
 
Qualifying mayoral candidates are Fridie Algee, Jr. and Thomas Michael Tolley.  Justin Taylor Coulter and Ricky G. Long have also obtained petitions.
 
Christopher James Cannon, Jimmy W. Lewis and Randall D. Long have obtained petitions for Town of Atwood Alderman but have not filed them.
 
In Bruceton, voters will elect one mayor and two aldermen.
 
Robert T. Keeton, III has obtained a petition for mayor but has not yet filed it with the Carroll County Election Commission.
 
Jack R. Blocker and James A. Butler have obtained petitions for alderman. 
 
In the town of Hollow Rock, voters will elect one mayor, three aldermen for a four-year term, and an alderman for a two-year unexpired term.
 
Robert Vincent Brotherton filed a qualified petition for Hollow Rock Mayor July 11. Matthew Townsend has obtained a petition but has not filed it with the Carroll County Election Commission.
 
Angela C. Stockdale is a qualified candidate for alderman. Zachary A. Clement has obtained a petition for the seat. 
 
Huntingdon voters will elect three four-year council members and one council member with a two-year unexpired term.
 
Kelly B. Eubanks has obtained a petition for Town of Huntingdon Council Member.
 
William P. Atkins has obtained a petition for Town of Huntingdon Council Member with a two-year unexpired term.
 
In Trezevant, voters will elect two four-year aldermen and one alderman for a two-year unexpired term.
 
Steve Robert Richardson has filed a qualified petition for Town of Trezevant Alderman. Donald M. Barger, Lloyd H. Bateman and Pamela D. Joyner have obtained petitions for the alderman seat.
 
The voter registration deadline for the November 8 election is October 11, and the absentee deadline is November 1. Early voting is October 19 through November 3.
