Election Commission Prepares for May Primary

HUNTINGDON (February 22) — The candidates have qualified for the May 3 party primary and the August general elections.

Carroll County Election Commission prepared for the May election by securing the ballot boxes for each of the precincts.

The commission consists of Republican Linda Wallace, Julia Blanks, and chairman Ron Reiter. The lone Democrat is Mike Corrado following the recent resignation of Nellie Hale, the other Democrat.

Precinct boxes had two padlocks affixed to secure them. Ron Reiter placed the Republican’s lock and Corrado secured the Democrat ‘s lock.

Peg Hamlett, administrator of elections, said the current voting machines are 17 years old and need to be replaced to accommodate paper ballots. Two vendors of voting machines, were scheduled to make a sales presentation on Thursday, February 24 to election commissioners. Help American Vote Act funds in the amount of $210,000 are available to pay toward the purchase price.
