Garbage Trucks Are Running in Rural Carroll County Again

Posted

Curbside collection of solid waste has returned to rural Carroll County. Republic Services is operating under an emergency contract to collect and dispose of residential solid waste after Red River Waste Solutions ceased operations in the county after filing bankruptcy.

Jeff Heyduck, manager of the county’s Solid Waste and Recycling Department, said Republic Services started Tuesday, November 2 with one and sometimes two collection trucks. Republic Services agreed to a 90-day contract and started immediately. Heyduck said collection of the garbage that has accumulated over the last three to four weeks requires longer than normal collection times. Sometimes, a normal one day route might take two to three days to collect and dispose.

A second rental truck will soon be added on a full-time basis with hopes to restore the regular weekly routes. Previously, Red River operated two trucks five days weekly.

Heyduck encouraged residents to leave their collection carts at the side of the road because the trucks are operating as they can, where they can. It might be several weeks before the trucks operate on a regular schedule, said Heyduck. The situation is improving day by day.

The county’s Solid Waste Committee voted to waive residents’ $18 monthly fee for the month of October.
