McKenzie native Drew Hayes returns to professional baseball this week returning as the development coach for the Toronto Blue Jays organization. He is coaching in their minor league system.

Drew Hayes Returns to Pro Baseball as Coach

McKenzie native Drew Hayes returns to professional baseball this week returning as the development coach for the Toronto Blue Jays organization. He is coaching in their minor league system.
Hayes was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 11th round of the 2010 MLB Draft out of Vanderbilt University. He pitched in the Majors during the 2016 season. He previously worked at Trinity Christian Academy, where he coached baseball and football while teaching English and Government. He will be instrumental in helping players develop through data and analytics.
He leaves for spring training this week.
He is the son of Glenn and Joyce Hayes of McKenzie. He played on the McKenzie Rebels baseball and pitched in the state championship game, which earned McKenzie its first state baseball championship since the 1940s. He was a three-sport standout in football, baseball, and basketball at McKenzie. He played one year of baseball at Bethel University under his dad and coach Glenn Hayes before transferring to Vanderbilt.
