Inglenook Book Club News

The Inglenook Book Club met in November at Lakeside Senior Living Center with Beverly Mueller and Pedie Pedersen as hostesses. Members enjoyed delicious refreshments and the tables were beautifully decorated in a Thanksgiving motif.

President Carol Moore also introduced her guest, Gayron Lyles, and also welcomed our newest member, Jean Hollomon.

Members celebrating November birthdays are Carolyn Goodwin and Sally Sutton. Birthday cards were presented and “Happy Birthday” was sung.

Sign-up sheets were distributed for hostess duties and program giving choices for next year.

Victoria Ard gave the report from the Nominating Committee: Carolyn Moore, President; Sally Sutton, Vice President; Beverly Mueller, Recording Secretary; Donna Ward, Treasurer, and Mary Newman, Book Secretary. Carolyn Goodwin had expressed her wish to step down as Recording Secretary after this year, and Beverly Mueller graciously accepted the nomination to replace her. President Moore thanked Carolyn for her years of serving as Recording Secretary and Publicity Chairman. She also thanked all the committee chairmen.

After discussion it was decided the club would continue collecting items each month for the school teachers to use in their classrooms. For today’s meeting everyone brought large scissors, and next month the donation will be hand wipes.

After the business meeting, our program was presented by Zia Locke, whose subject was C. J. Box, a New York Times number one best-selling author of 30 novels of the western mystery genre. He has won many awards with over ten million copies of his books sold in the United States and abroad, and translated into 27 languages. Two television series based on his novels are in production: “Big Sky” on ABC, and “Joe Pickett” on Spectrum Originals TV. He is an Executive Producer for both series.

Besides the Joe Pickett series, Cox has also authored the Cody Hoyt/ Cassie Dewell series, along with several stand-alone novels and short stories. Box says that he “kind of fell in love with” the character of Cassie Dewell and wanted to write about her more than any other of his characters. In retrospect, he thinks it was the right choice.

Dark Sky is the 21st Joe Pickett novel and was published in March, 2020. It debuted as #2 on the New York Times best-seller list and also remained a Publisher’s Weekly best-seller for fifteen consecutive weeks.

Charles James Box, Jr. was born in 1958 and grew up in Casper, Wyoming. He has a degree in Mass Communications from the University of Denver. He has worked as a ranch hand, surveyor, fishing guide, small town newspaper reporter and editor, and owned an international tourism marketing firm with his wife, Laurie. An avid outdoorsman, Box has hunted, fished, hiked, ridden, and skied throughout Wyoming and the Mountain West. He served on the Board of Directors for the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo, and currently serves on the Wyoming Office of Tourism Board. He and Laurie have three daughters and two grandchildren and live on their ranch in Saratoga, Wyoming.

Under Announcements, our Chamber of Commerce representative Shirley Martin stated that she and Victoria Ard recently attended a Chamber breakfast where it was announced that the Chamber is in process of developing a website.

President Moore announced that during the meeting her guest, Gayron Lyles, expressed a desire to join the club, and we welcomed her as our newest member. She will replace Gaye Rowan whose resignation was accepted with regret.

Our December meeting will be December 8th at 12 noon.

After the book passing and the club benediction, the meeting adjourned.
