Lady Rebels Compete in Milan Tournament

MILAN — McKenzie’s Lady Rebels spent the opening weekend in April competing at Milan’s ‘War At The Dawg Pound’ tournament on April 1 and 2.

Scotts Hill
McKenzie faced Scotts Hill on Friday, April 1, in a contest that resulted in a 1-1 tie. Scotts Hill drew first blood with a run in the top of the second inning while Aubrey Jackson tied it for McKenzie with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. The remainder of the game went scoreless. Peyton Ognibene pitched four innings giving up three hits, a run, three walks, and striking out two.

The Lady Rebels were busy on Saturday April 2, playing three games against Jackson Southside and Riverside twice.

Jackson Southside
The Lady Rebels lost a close 5-4 contest to the Lady Hawks in the final inning. Southside scored first with a solo run in the top of the first but McKenzie plated two runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead 2-1. The Lady Hawks tied it 2-2 with another solo run in the top of the second inning. They scored three more runs in the top of the third inning while McKenzie scored two in the bottom of the inning to close out the loss. Briley Auvenshine hit a two-run homer to lead the Lady Rebels. Savannah Davis, Kassidy Brown, and Peyton Ognibene also recorded hits. Katie Chesser went all three innings on the mound for McKenzie.

Riverside (2 games)
McKenzie played Riverside twice losing both games 3-1 and 6-1. In the first game, Riverside struck first scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. The Lady Rebels got their lone run in the bottom of the second inning while Riverside secured the win with a third run in the top of the fifth inning. Jaden Barton hit a double driving in Aubrey Jackson for the lone run. Briley Auvenshine and Katie Chesser both pitched with Chesser taking the loss for the Lady Rebels.

In the second game against Riverside, the Lady Rebels scored their lone run in the top of the first inning with Riverside taking the lead in the bottom of the inning scoring two runs. The Lady Panthers added a run in the fourth and three runs in the fifth inning. Chesser scored the lone run for McKenzie while they managed three hits for the game.
