Lady Rebels Lose to South Gibson, Defeat McEwen

McKenzie’s Lady Rebels got back to action after some rainouts with a game at South Gibson and a district game at McEwen.

South Gibson
The Lady Rebels traveled to South Gibson on Tuesday, April 19 for a game against South Gibson’s Lady Hornets. It was a tight contest until the Lady Hornets sealed the deal with multiple runs in the bottom of the final innings.

The first two innings went scoreless with the first score coming at the bottom of the third when Gibson County drove in a solo run for a 1-0 lead. McKenzie tied it with a solo run in the top of the fourth inning and it stayed tied until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Lady Hornets won the game plating three runs to win 4-1.

McKenzie had seven hits in the game led by Briley Auvenshine with three hits. Anna Robinson had a pair of base hits and Katie Chesser added a hit. Chesser went the distance on the mound giving up seven hits, four runs, two walks, and seven strikeouts for the Lady Rebels.

McEwen
On Wednesday, April 20, McKenzie traveled to McEwen for a make-up district game against the Lady Warriors winning 8-2.

The Lady Rebels tallied 14 hits while giving up just five. They got the scoring started early with three first inning runs before both teams went scoreless through three innings until the Lady Rebels drove three more runs in the top of the fifth inning to make it 6-0. McEwen got their first run in the bottom of the fifth but McKenzie answered with their final two runs in the top of the seventh inning making it 8-1. The Lady Warriors plated one last run in the bottom of the seventh inning closing the game with a Lady Rebel win.

Anna Robinson and Briley Auvenshine led the way with a base hit and homer driving in two runs and scoring three runs. Robinson had two singles and two doubles driving in three runs and scoring two. Jaden Barton added three hits while Katie Chesser had a base hit and drew a walk scoring both times. Kassidy Brown had a base hit and scored while Savannah Davis and Taylor Rawls had base hits. Davis drove in a run.

Payton Ognibene went the distance on the mound giving up five hits, two runs, three walks, and eight strikeouts while hitting a single that drove in a run.
