Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

I am writing this as a letter of support for stable, experienced, accomplished leadership at McKenzie City Hall.

While there is often sentiment in midterm elections to “throw the bums out” that does not fit this year in our local election.

Prior to the current administration McKenzie had suffered devastating job losses, population losses and limped through a great recession.

Covid-19 killed many of our friends and our local hospital was dropped by a big corporation that had no loyalty to our people of McKenzie but the current administration fought back.

Real estate values went up, employment increased, schools stayed open, our kids became state champions and contenders in every sport, and resilience has had its reward.

Festivals, a revived downtown, and falling crime rates defied national and regional trends for rural America.

None of this was by accident or luck.

The committed leadership of Jill Holland and McKenzie’s dedicated police, firemen, city workers, educators distinguish and protect us and should be kept in place as new challenges on the horizon loom large.

Now is not the time to replace proven leaders.

My 2 cents.

Daniel Sumrok MD
