Magnolia Mercantile Co. Hosts Ribbon Cutting

Posted

McKENZIE — A ribbon cutting ceremony for Magnolia Mercantile Co., located on 17 Broadway in McKenzie, was held Monday, June 28. For its grand opening, the store sold all bar soaps, bath bombs and shower steamers for only $5 each.

Josh Filtz, owner of Magnolia Mercantile Co., first envisioned Magnolia Mercantile Co. as a menswear store, inspired by McElhiney Menswear, a shop he frequented when he was younger. His wife, Cassie, urged him to bring women’s boutique-wear and baby clothes into the shop. From there, Magnolia Mercantile Co. became a boutique store that has “something for everyone.”

Magnolia Mercantile Co. sells brands such as Magnolia Soap & Bath Co., Inis, Southern Marsh, Properly Tied, Volunteer Traditions, Fieldstone, Southern Point Co., Floafers, Speckle Bellies, Funky Magnolia, Eli & Grace, Divinity Grove Candles, Sassy Señorita, Burlebo and Jeremy Hendon Wood Creations. Customers can find these brands, original local artwork, jewelry, purses, unique gifts, and more in the black-and-white painted shop in downtown McKenzie.

Josh Filtz was born and raised in McKenzie. He attended Ole Miss, where he obtained his doctorate in Higher Education and a bachelor’s degree in Business. His first job in higher education was at Bethel University, where he also earned his Master in Business Administration degree.

Josh Filtz married Cassie Filtz, a fourth-grade teacher in Milan, in October 2020. Together, they share four children: Lilly, Anniston, Charlie and Emerson.

Filtz “retired” from higher education, as he says, and chose to open Magnolia Mercantile Co. in McKenzie to support his hometown and be closer to his family. He is very excited to be located in McKenzie’s historic downtown and is appreciative of all the support he has received from McKenzie and other local communities since the store’s opening June 1.

Magnolia Mercantile Co. is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
