Posted

McKenzie junior running back Marquez Taylor was announced Tuesday evening, November 23, during the Mike Vrabel show as a finalist for Class A Mr. Football. The winners will be announced on December 7 at a luncheon at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.

Taylor is the fifth Rebel to earn a Mr. Football nomination. The predecessors include Ricky Mathis (2002), Drew Hayes (won the award in 2005), Derek Carr (2007), and Colin Vinson (2010).

Marquez has had a big year rushing for 1,285 yards and 26 touchdowns while receiving for 220 yards and two more touchdowns in just nine regular season games. On defense, he returned an interception for a touchdown giving him 30 total touchdowns for the season. This does not include what he has done in the playoffs.

The other two Class A nominees are Khalik Ganaway from Trenton and De’Andre Kelly of South Pittsburg. One other local Mr. Football Finalist is Class AA’s Ty Simpson of Martin Westview.
