McKenzie junior running back Marquez Taylor was a finalist for the 2021 Mr. Football award. Taylor is the fifth Rebel to earn a Mr. Football nomination. The predecessors include Ricky Mathis (2002), Drew Hayes (won the award in 2005), Derek Carr (2007), and Colin Vinson (2010).

Marquez Taylor Mr. Football Finalist

McKenzie junior running back Marquez Taylor was a finalist for the 2021 Mr. Football award. Taylor is the fifth Rebel to earn a Mr. Football nomination. The predecessors include Ricky Mathis (2002), Drew Hayes (won the award in 2005), Derek Carr (2007), and Colin Vinson (2010).

Marquez has had a big year rushing for 1,285 yards and 26 touchdowns while receiving for 220 yards and two more touchdowns in just nine regular season games. In the playoffs, he rushed for nearly 400 yards and seven touchdowns and caught for 238 yards and four touchdowns.

He finished the season with approximately 1,682 yards rushing and 458 yards receiving for 40 touchdowns. Taylor returned two interceptions and a punt for touchdowns giving him 42 total touchdowns for the season.

South Pittsburg’s DeAndre Kelly was the other finalist while Malik Ganaway of Trenton won Mr. Football for Class A. Westview’s Ty Simpson won the Class AA Mr. Football award.
