    HUNTINGDON (December 19) — The Carroll County Budget Committee recommended allocating $111,000 of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Funds to the Carroll County Rural Fire Department. The allocation, once approved by the Carroll County Commission, can be applied toward the construction of a training center or can be used for other training-related expenses.

    McKENZIE (December 20) — After six seasons as head coach of the Bethel University Football program, Coach Michael Jasper (44-20) has announced he is departing the university to become the head coach at Stetson University in Deland, Florida. The Hatters are a NCAA Division I program competing in the Pioneer League.

    McKENZIE (December 18) — McKenzie has moved one step closer to having a Taco Bell franchise. On Wednesday, the McKenzie Regional Planning Commission approved the site plan presented by Excel Engineer for Kari Keller of Pacific Bells, LLC. Regional planner Donny Bunton stated there were five minor issues with the site plan but they were quickly corrected by Keller’s staff.

    MARTIN (December 16) — The McKenzie High School Rebels traveled Monday to face Westview in a boys-only night of basketball. The Chargers jumped out to a big lead early and extended it in the third quarter en route to a 73-47 win.

    HUNTINGDON (December 17) — Huntingdon High School hosted Clarksburg Tuesday for a pair of basketball contests. The home teams swept the visitors in dominant fashion. The Fillies earned a 93-23 win while the Mustangs won 85-46.

    Leaving the Scene of an Accident — On December 15, Sgt. Davis responded to a hit-and-run call at Dollar General located on Highway 22 in McKenzie. Upon arriving on scene a witness described a white male wearing a hat, black hoodie, and shorts, stating the male got into a gold pickup truck and backed into a black Honda Civic that was sitting in a parking spot near the front of the store. The witness said the driver never stopped and left the scene heading toward Gleason on Hwy 22.

    Driving on Suspended License — According to a report made by Officer Kristen Lee on December 7, she observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, so she conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in which the driver, Travis W. Winston, 34, was driving. Dispatch confirmed that Winston’s license was suspended.
