McKenzie Golf Roundup

Posted

Under new leadership of Coach Tyler Holt, the 2021 MHS Rebel Golf season kicked off on August 2 at Carroll Lake Golf Course where they hosted Gleason and Clarksburg schools. McKenzie had the overall lowest scores and won both the ladies’ and men’s matches. Juleyanne Weatherford was the ladies’ medalist with a score of 42 while Nolan Renfro was the gentlemen’s medalist with a low of 40.

The Rebel Golfers then had another good afternoon at Carroll Lake Golf Course on August 3, competing against Gleason, where they led in scoring. Juleyanne Weatherford, with a score of 40, was again the ladies low medalist. Ayden Smith improved upon score by 9 strokes, ending his round with a 46, becoming that day’s men’s low medalist. Other notable scores from the match were those of Payton Ognibene’s 47 and Nolan Renfro’s 47 as well.

The MHS golfers traveled to Paris Landing State Park golf course on August 5 for their third match of the week. Opponents for the match were Henry County and Camden, both of whom defeated Rebel golfers. Like the temperatures, the scores were not as low as we’d have preferred, but everyone enjoyed playing on this beautiful Tennessee Golf Trail course. Nolan Renfro and Ayden Smith submitted scores of 45 and 47, respectively. The Lady Rebels won their match over Henry County with Juleyanne Weatherford’s low medalist score of 48 and Payton Ognibene’s 49.

Persimmon Hills Golf Course in Sharon was host for a road match on August 16. Several schools were represented this afternoon to play the front nine holes of this beautiful course, which continues to undergo many renovations. Present for the girls’ teams were McKenzie, Trenton, and Greenfield. The Lady Rebels brought home wins over both of their opponents with Juleyanne Weatherford with 43, Jaden Tucker shooting 46, and Anna Weatherford with 53. Juleyanne took the low medalist score. The boys’ teams included McKenzie, Trenton, Dresden, Bradford, and Westview, with Rebel wins over both Trenton and Dresden. Nolan Renfro completed his match with a 48, Ayden Smith with a 54, and Caleb Burke with a 61.

After two matches away, the Rebel Golfers were happy to return home to Carroll Lake Golf Course for a match on August 17. Golfers from Gibson County and Huntingdon were guests today. It was great to see the many McKenzie faces who came out to enjoy the beautiful weather and watch the golfers this afternoon! The girls had great scores, topping those of both Gibson County and Huntingdon. Juleyanne Weatherford led with a medalist low of 38, followed by Payton Ognibene’s 45 and Anna Weatherford’s 47. The boys split their competition this afternoon, losing to Gibson County, but were victorious over the Mustang Golfers. Ayden Smith carded a good match with his score of 44, accompanied by Nolan Renfro’s 46.

With many Gatorades and water bottles in hand, the Rebel Golfers welcomed the Gleason Bulldogs to Carroll Lake on August 24. Even though the heat index was pushing 100 degrees, it didn’t prevent the golfers from carding some great scores and taking two wins! Juleyanne Weatherford, medalist for the girls, led the Lady Rebels with a low of 36. Jaden Barton followed up with a 47 and Payton Ognibene with a 49. Nolan Renfro, medalist for the boys, led the Rebels with his round of 42, followed by Caleb Burke’s 52.

MHS Rebel Golf traveled to Camden on August 26 to take on Henry County and Camden at the Magic Valley Golf Club’s nine-hole course. It was another very hot round of golf, with temps in the upper 90s. The Lady Rebels’ only opponent was Henry County, as Camden does not have a girls’ team. With Juleyanne Weatherford’s low medalist score of 41 and both Jaden Barton and Anna Weatherford’s scores of 50, our Lady Rebels left the course with another win for their record! Although the Rebels did not come away with their win, they still played great with Nolan Renfro’s score of 40, accompanied by Ayden Smith’s 45.

MHS Rebel Golfers traveled to Milan Golf & Country Club last Tuesday, September 7, to take on players from Milan High School. Nolan Renfro carded a 41and Ayden Smith carded a 47 but after 9 holes, the Rebels came up short against the Bulldogs.

After the Weatherford sisters combined their scores of Juleyanne’s 44 and Anna’s 48, the Lady Rebels brought home another win; remaining undefeated thus far this season.

Last Thursday, September 9, the Rebel Golfers traveled to Persimmon Hills Golf Course in Sharon to tee off against the South Gibson Hornets, the Greenfield Yellowjackets, and the Westview Chargers.

The Lady Rebels beat Greenfield, but lost to the South Gibson Lady Hornets. Juleyanne Weatherford, however, was the low medalist with her score of 40. Nolan Renfro led the Rebels with his score of 48. Unfortunately, the gentlemen lost to both South Gibson and Westview.
