McKenzie Has Busy Week

McKenzie’s Middle School Basketball teams went into November with a full schedule during the first week. On Monday, November 1, they traveled to West Carroll splitting two games with the Lady Rebels winning and the Rebels losing.  The next night, November 2, they were on the road again to Henry where they swept the Lady Pirates and Pirates.

They were back home on Thursday night, November 4 against Clarksburg splitting the two games. The Lady Rebels won and the Rebels lost a heartbreaker in the final seconds of the game against the Rockets.

McKenzie jumped out to a 20-4 lead with balanced scoring from several people and never looked back as they expanded the lead to 32-12 by halftime.

Nearly everyone on the bench got to play in the third and fourth periods. McKenzie led 48-22 after three periods and went on to win 59-26.

Gracie Aird and Madeline Gotshall led the way with 10 points each followed closely by Charli Weatherford with nine points.  Jaycee Stafford and Sara Luci added seven points each.  Morgan Little had five points along with Braylin Auvenshine and Sanoah Dennie with four points each.  Addison Milam and Molly French chipped in two and one point respectively.

 Clarksburg was led by another Addison Milam with 19 of the team’s 26 points. Myssa Belew, Makenna Bolen, and Briley Crum had two points each and Carlie Swinford chipped in a point.

The Lady Rebels improved over the week to 6-1 on the season.

The Rebels and Rockets went toe-to-toe for four periods and wasn’t decided until the final seconds of the contest.

McKenzie led 9-5 after one period and held a slim 18-17 lead at halftime.  They hung on to that slim lead at the end of three periods 25-24.   The Rockets outscored McKenzie 11-9 in the fourth period with most of the points coming on free throws.  The game was knotted up at 34-34 headed into the final seconds when the Rebels committed a foul and sent Clarksburg’s Braylin O’Neal to the line.  He hit the first one to break the tie and missed the second before the final buzzer went off with the Rockets winning 35-34.

Four Rebels led the way with Eli Vinson scoring eight, Cole Brown and Nolan Fawcett had six points each, and Luke Toombs added five points.  Avery Brown had four points while Fletcher Holt and Jacobi Melton hit three and two points respectively.

Clarksburg was led by Trae Cobb with 20 points.  Parker Grant had four points for the Rockets.  Brylin O’Neal and Halter had three points each while Jake Miller and Hampton had two points each.  Darrell Bartholomew chipped in a point.

The Rebels fell to 2-5 on the season.

McKenzie has a busy week coming up with a home contest against Bradford, Monday, November 8, a road game against Harrelson on Tuesday, November 9 and back home again Thursday, November 11 for a rematch against Huntingdon.
