Defeat Trenton Peabody 8-2 in Semi-final Game in Murfreesboro

McKenzie Rebels Defeat Trenton in Semifinal 8-2 to Advance to Championship on Sunday.

The McKenzie Rebels baseball team is headed to the Class 1A championship game after defeating Trenton Peabody two times in a doubleheader on Saturday.  The Rebels won the semi-final game by 8-2 and now play Eagleville for the championship on Sunday, May 29, 1 p.m. at Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro.

The Rebels  defeated University School 4 to 3 on Tuesday in the first round of competition.  Heavy rain on Wednesday and Thursday prevented in competition.

McKenzie met Trenton Peabody on Friday and lost by one point.

The Rebels moved to the loser's bracket, where they met Gordonsville Friday afternoon. The Rebels won 10 to 1.  

In the double-elimination contest, the Rebels again faced Trenton on Saturday morning and won 8-7.   Both team then had one loss in the tournament. The Rebels met Trenton-Peabody for a third time in the contest and won 8-2 to send the Rebels to the championship game.

The last baseball champion team was in 2006 for the Rebels.

The 2022 team hopes to earn McKenzie its second state championship after the Lady Rebels basketball team earned its first-ever championship in March.
