McKENZIE (July 26) — The McKenzie Special School District School Board hosted its annual breakfast, catered by Mallards, Monday morning for all McKenzie Special School District faculty. The school board and administrators met in the McKenzie High School cafeteria at 8 a.m.

Monday’s breakfast begins teachers’ week-long training to prepare for the upcoming school year. Monday’s schedule included participating in the Red Sand Project, a symbolic presentation to educate faculty about human trafficking. Monday afternoon, Larry Bell—a leading educational motivational speaker, consultant and author—met with teachers via web conference.

Tuesday, the teachers met at the middle school for “Rebel Institute,” a program in which teachers were given several choices regarding education and chose topics they found most interesting. This was a learning opportunity that catered to all McKenzie educators’ specific needs.

Wednesday, the teachers participate in required professional development programs. For the remainder of the week, the principals will set their own needs for teachers. At the elementary school, for example, teachers will participate in early literacy training. All school administrators will discuss the team evaluation model, the model with which teachers will be evaluated in observations.

McKenzie Elementary School’s parent orientation is Thursday, July 29, from 1-6 p.m. McKenzie Middle School’s parent orientation and open house is Thursday, from 4-6 p.m. McKenzie High School freshman orientation is Thursday at 6:30 p.m. All students will attend school one-half day Tuesday, August 3.
