McKenzie Splits With Bruceton

McKenzie Middle basketball teams played host to Bruceton in their final home contest of the season coming away with a split of two close games.

Lady Rebels 22, Lady Tigers 17
Neither team was hitting baskets very well early and played to a 6-6 tie in the opening period. The second period saw both teams score just three points each to reach a 9-9 tie by halftime. The third period was low scoring like the first two periods with Bruceton leading 11-10 heading into the final period. Both teams got a bit hotter in the last period but it was a Jaycee Stafford three-pointer that put McKenzie ahead late in the game. The Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Tigers 12-6 during the last period to secure the close win.

McKenzie was led by Charli Weatherford and Jaycee Stafford with eight and seven points respectively while Sarah Luci added three points. Madeline Gotshall and Sanoah Dennie chipped in two points each for the Lady Rebels.

Scarlett King led Bruceton with seven points followed by Olivia Scott and Mikayla Bass with four points each. Ava Finley chipped in two points for the Lady Tigers.

Tigers 55, Rebels 44
The Rebels and Tigers went toe to toe in the first period with several lead changes and the period ended with a 12-11 McKenzie lead. The Tigers retook the lead and surged ahead to a 29-23 halftime lead. Bruceton made it a double-digit lead by the end of the third period with a 44-31 lead. The Rebels did outscore Bruceton in the fourth period but it wasn’t enough to win the contest.

Luke Toombs and Jacobi Melton led the Rebels with 11 points each while Cole Brown added six points along with Eli Vinson and Nolan Fawcett with five points each. Fletcher Holt and Avery Brown had three points each for the Rebels.

Bruceton was led by Thratcher Crews with 17 points followed by Parker Finley with 13 points and Nick King with 10 points. Brady Roberts added nine points and Seth Thomas had six points for the Tigers.

McKenzie has one more regular season game on the road at Gleason on Monday, November 29 before competing in the Carroll County Tournament at West Carroll.
