McKenzie Wins In Diamond Classic

HUNTINGDON — McKenzie’s Rebels posted a big win in their first contest of the Diamond Classic Tournament in Huntingdon against the host Mustangs.

The first three innings went by with no score for either team until the Rebels scored three in the top of the fourth inning. The Mustangs answered with their lone run of the game in the bottom of the fourth. McKenzie exploded for 12 runs in the top of the fifth inning. They had 17 hits scattered across six innings with several Rebels getting multiple hits.

Senior Zayden McCaslin had two singles and a double scoring 3 runs. Collin McLearin also hit two singles driving in a run and scoring a run. Ty Anderson had two singles scoring two runs while Hayden Hixon had two singles driving in a run and scoring two runs. Jackson Cassidy had a pair of hits including a homer and a single driving in two runs and scoring a run. Jake McDaniel had a three-run homer and scored a run. Nolen Renfro hit a single and drew a walk scoring both times he got on base. Tate Surber got a solo hit and drew two walks driving in a pair of runs and scoring two runs. Braden Birmingham recorded three hits driving in four runs and scoring a run for the Rebels.

Blake Reeves and Hunter Britt had two hits apiece for the Mustangs while Brady Warbritton and Cade Wood both had solo hits. Warbritton drove in Huntingdon’s lone run which was scored by Blaine Fields.

Ty Anderson got the win on the mound going four innings giving up one run and striking out five. Hayden Hixon came in relief giving up two hits and striking out two Mustangs. Luke Cooper took the loss for Huntingdon going the distance giving up 15 runs on 17 hits and striking out two.
