Second Reading of Budget on McKenzie Agenda

Posted

McKENZIE (July 6) — The City of McKenzie Board of Mayor and Council meets Thursday, July 9 at 6 p.m. via the Internet application ZOOM Meeting. On the agenda is the public hearing on the 2020-2021 Fiscal Year Budget. The council will vote on the second reading of the budget.
Though the city has not received the counties certified tax rate, Kay Stegall of the Tennessee Municipal Technical Advisory Service (MTAS) said the city “could pass the budget then do a separate ordinance to set tax rate if it exceeds the certified rate.”

Also on the agenda is the city’s planned commitment to provide matching funds for the Tennessee Tourism Enhancement Grant 2020. The Local Parks and Recreation Fund (LPRF) Grant is to be used for the parks’ equipment.
Police Chief Craig Moates will address the council about concerns following numerous complaints regarding fireworks. Mayor Jill Holland said, “This will be an issue we will need to address, and we may need to have a workshop to discuss it. I have spoken with several cities throughout the state, and they deal with it in various ways. I think we can come to a compromise which will hopefully, help to satisfy those who still want to shoot fireworks and those who have problems with the residential fireworks displays.”
The agenda is subject to change. Individuals who wish to address the council via ZOOM need to contact City Hall at 731-352-2332.
