MHS Band Celebrates Year of Competition

McKENZIE (May 2) — McKenzie High School Marching Rebels celebrated a year of competition and concert performances at a year-end banquet on Tuesday, May 2 at the MHS Cafeteria.

Booster President Chase Barton welcomed the large gathering, MHS Band Member Braxton Williams gave the invocation , and the attendees enjoyed a delicious meal catered by the McKenzie Station Bar and Grill.

After dinner, junior members Grace Seiber and Terry Reindl reviewed another award-winning year for the band. They reminded the audience of all the rain that we dealt with on Friday nights and Saturday completions. They thanked the McKenzie Banner, the faculty and administration, instructors , parents, and community for their continued support to the program.

Senior officers Jonah Hampton and Connor Viana announced the new student officer for the 2022-23 season. President Grace Seiber, Vice President Terry Reindl, Reporter- Amya Gilbert, and Librarians, Dakota Cary and Matthew Hoffman.

Each senior member took a moment to say their farewells and thank yous to the instructors and the boosters for their support. They also told which field show had been their favorite one to present. They then presented Band Director Keith Breeden with a collage framed photos and written goodbyes from each of them, along with an insulated cup with their names on it and the Journey emblem (Mr. Breeden’s favorite rock group).

Booster President Chase Barton then presented each senior with a special gift from the Boosters to remember the great years of their band experience.

Chuck and Veda Haney were presented a plaque for their 12 years of dedication and service to the MHS Marching Rebels. Their third child, Jonathan, is a senior this year. Their other two children also went through the program.

Director Keith Breeden then took to the lectern and thanked the bus driver, Ms. Tina, for making sure the band always had safe trips, the administration of MHS and MMS and superintendent Watkins, the Banner, the towns and businesses in and around McKenzie for their support, the instructors, the Band Boosters ( which he stressed that this program couldn’t function without their endless support and fundraising. The director said “much gratitude and love to you guys.” He thanked the “kiddos” for their love, respect, and dedication shown this year was truly remarkable.

“The trophies and awards are nice, but what you will always remember is the time we spent together...the laugher, the quarrels, the trips, the rain,etc. We did it as a family. It’s time to close the storybook on another very special year. Thanks for the memories.”
