ATWOOD (February 14) — West Carroll High School hosted McKenzie Friday for a pair of basketball contests, wrapping up the regular season for both schools. The visitors pulled away early in both games. The Lady Rebels won 51-36 in the opener, and the Rebels took the nightcap, 57-19.
McKenzie Lady Rebels 51, West Carroll Lady War Eagles 36
The Lady Rebels jumped out to a 19-2 lead after the opening frame, led by Jaycee Stafford with ten points. Molly French scored six with a three-pointer, and Sophie Pate also hit a three. Hailey Mitchell had a pair for West Carroll.
The Lady War Eagles had a 16-13 edge in the second quarter, led by Gracelyn Vernon with eight points, including a pair of three-pointers. Mitchell scored six, and Abbi O’Bryan had a pair. Stafford scored nine for McKenzie, and French and Aurora Johnson each had a pair. At the half, the Lady Rebels led 32-18.
McKenzie had a 10-7 advantage in the third, led by Stafford with five points, including a three. Ava Hastings also hit a three, and French added a pair. Vernon hit a three for the Lady War Eagles, and Mitchell and Aubrey Hammett each had a pair. Entering the final frame, the Lady Rebels led 42-25.
West Carroll shrunk the final deficit with an 11-9 tilt in the fourth, led by Vernon with eight points, including a pair of threes. Chloe Rimmer also hit a three. Lady Rebel Zayda Scates hit a three, and Stafford also scored three points. Pate added a pair, and Kallie Hudgins hit a free throw.
Lady Rebel Jaycee Stafford led all scorers with 27 points, including a three-pointer. Molly French scored ten with a three.
Gracelyn Vernon led West Carroll with 19 points, including five three-pointers. Hailey Mitchell scored ten points.
Rebels 57, War Eagles 19
McKenzie led 11-7 after the first frame, led by Tate Surber with six points. Cole Brown scored five with a three-pointer. War Eagle Chandler Rimmer hit a three, and Kayden Melton and Mason Taylor each had a pair.
The Rebels had a 19-6 advantage in the second quarter, led by C. Brown with eight points, including a pair of threes. Surber scored five points. Avery Brown had four, and Craegen Travis had a pair. Taylor led West Carroll with four points, and Melton added a pair. At the half, the Rebels led 30-13.
McKenzie enjoyed an 18-2 tilt in the third, led by Surber with six points, including a three. A. Brown scored four, C. Brown and Carter Kee each hit a three, and Travis added a pair. Rimmer had a pair for the War Eagles. Heading into the final frame, McKenzie led 48-15.
The Rebels capped the win in a quick, 9-4 fourth, led by Surber with four points. Kason Brown and Cooper Davidson each had a pair, and KD Cunningham hit a free throw. Melton had all four West Carroll points.
Rebel Tate Surber led all scorers with 21 points, including a three. Cole Brown scored 16 with four three-pointers.
Kayden Melton led the War Eagles with eight points.
