Mills Pleads Guilty in Carroll County Murder

Posted
Jason Mark Mills, 34, of Camden pled guilty to 2nd Degree Murder in the February 2020 death of his estranged wife, Ryan Bennett Mills, of Bruceton.  He has been sentenced to 36 years in prison where he will serve 100 percent of the sentence except for time served between February 2020 and November 22, 2021 in the Carroll County Jail.

The case began shortly after midnight on February 8, 2020 when first responders were called to a house fire on Spruce Street in Bruceton. The body of Ryan Bennett Mills, mother of two children, was found and other authorities including District 24 District Attorney’s Office and TBI Special Agents were alerted and assisted with the investigation.  Information and evidence developed identified Jason Mills as the individual responsible for the death of the victim.  He was arrested shortly after and held without bond.

Mills was initially charged and indicted for First Degree Murder, Aggravated Arson, Tampering With Evidence, and Abuse of a Corpse. The plea agreement changed the murder charge to Second Degree Murder and dropped the other charges.
