McKenzie Middle Tops Greenfield

The McKenzie Rebels topped the Greenfield Yellow Jackets 10-7 with a comeback in the second inning.

The Yellow Jackets took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with three hits to score one run. The Yellow Jackets then added to their lead in the top of the second with bases loaded. Baker Biggs tripled to clear the bases and put Greenfield on top 4-0.

The Rebels answered back in the bottom of the second, snatching the lead from the Yellow Jackets. Parker Ross singled to left field. Maddox Sheill singled to left field to score Ross. Jacobi Melton takes Sheill’s base running responsibility. Melton stole second and advanced to third on an error by the pitcher. Malaki Harris hit a line drive up the middle to score Melton. Avery Brown tripled to score Harris. Tucker Redmond singled to shortstop to score Brown. Ace Brown singled to the second baseman. Dawson Reeder reached on an error to load the bases. Cooper Davidson hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Redmond. Cole Brown took one for the team to load the bases again. Ace Brown scored on a wild pitch as the inning came to a close. The Rebels held a 6-4 lead over the Yellow Jackets.

The Jackets were held to one hit in the top of the third.

The Rebels added two runs to the board during the bottom of the third. Harris walked down the chalk to first base. Avery Brown singled to right field and advanced to third base on the throw to score Harris. Redmond grounded out to second base to score Brown. McKenzie held an 8-4 lead going into the fourth inning.

The Rebels had three quick outs in the top of the inning. Ace Brown had a put-out to Avery Brown at first base. Ace then threw a strikeout with four pitches. Cole Brown had a pop up at shortstop to retire the top of the inning.

Both teams were held scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when the Rebels chalked up two runs. Sheill hit a line drive and reached second base on an error. Harris bunted to the pitcher to score Sheill. Avery Brown reached third base on an error by the Greenfield infield. Ripken Thompson reached first base after bunting down the third baseline. Ace Brown grounded out to third, but scored Avery Brown. The Rebels had a six-run lead going into the top of the sixth. McKenzie led 10-4.

The Yellow Jackets scored three runs in the top of the sixth. With two runners on base, Baker Biggs grounded out to Davidson and scored a run. Baylor Vujicic singled to left field to score two runs.

The Rebels defeated the Yellow Jackets 10-7 after six innings due to time limit. The Rebels started district play on Saturday, April 22 and are looking to clench a championship birth after Monday’s game against the Stewart County Rebels. The district Championship is at Bethel University Tuesday, April 25 at 5 p.m.
