Nina Smothers is New Huntingdon Mayor

First female mayor in the 200-year history of the Tennessee town

Posted

Nina Smothers, vice-mayor of the Town of Huntingdon, was administered the oath of office to become Huntingdon's first female mayor on Tuesday, August 23.

During the regular monthly meeting, all council members were present with Smothers serving as chairman following the weekend death of Dale Kelley, who served in that position for 30 years.

At the conclusion of the meeting, City Judge Marsha Johns administered the oath of office to Smothers to serve the two-year unexpired term of Kelley. Next month, the Council will announce a vacancy on the Council and will appoint a new member to fill the unexpired term of Smothers.

Smothers promised to serve tirelessly in the position.

See the August 30 issue of The Banner for details of the meeting.
