McKenzie Parks to be Improved

Posted

In the coming months, the parks and recreations of McKenzie will undergo a series of planned improvements. Expected improvements are to include but are not limited to a three field soccer complex with a concession stand and restrooms and a parking lot.

The old tennis courts along Como Road will be removed and replaced with pickle ball courts. Renovation are expected at the ball park bathrooms and concession areas. The disc golf course will be connected to the park walking trail.

At Mulberry Park expect renovations of the walking trail, restrooms and resurfacing of the basketball courts.

The organization/entity performing the improvements wishes to remain unknown until they begin working on the projects.

According to city officials, the group will do all the labor and with the city paying for materials. The process to gain approval for the projects has taken over a year between the application process, meetings, visits, forms and additional documentation.

Mayor Jill Holland said, “We are very grateful to have forged the partnership with this organization, they have been very helpful and it will save the city a lot of money because of the work they will do and the skills they have that we will not have to pay for.

“It will be done in phases with the soccer fields, pickle ball courts and Mulberry Walking Trail at the top of the list, and easiest for them to begin the process as they will all be requiring land moving equipment. They will work through the list as the workers are assigned with the various skills that are needed.”

There have been several concerns brought to city officials in the last few years about the safety and quality of McKenzie’s recreational parks. By summer, some of these concerns might be addressed with improvements.
