Rebels Drop Two to South Gibson

McKENZIE/MEDINA (April 22-23) — The McKenzie High School Rebels were swept last week in a home-away series versus South Gibson. The Rebels hosted Thursday and fell 7-4, then traveled Friday and were defeated 6-5 in eight innings.
On Thursday, the Hornets got on the board first with a run in the top of the first, then added two in each of the next two frames. McKenzie cut the deficit to one with four runs in the bottom of the third, but South Gibson added insurance runs in the top of the fourth and seventh.
Rebel Jake McDaniel went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Brandon Boaz was 2-for-4. Ethan Travis went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Ty Anderson was 1-for-2 with a walk. Collin McLearen went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Jackson Cassidy was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Lute McCaslin went 1-for-4. Eli Surber was 0-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.

Ty Anderson took the loss for McKenzie, allowing seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits while striking out one and walking one in six innings. Zayden McCaslin threw the final frame, allowing no runs or hits while striking out one.
Friday, the Rebels struck first with a run in the top of the first. The Hornets plated three in the bottom of the third, but McKenzie matched that in the top of the fourth to regain the lead. South Gibson pushed across a run in each of the fourth and fifth to tie it and retake the lead. The Rebels knotted the score again with a run in the top of the seventh, but the Hornets walked off with a run in the home half of the eighth.
Jake McDaniel went 3-for-4 with a home run. Brandon Boaz was 2-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored. Phillip Smith went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and two RBIs. Ethan Travis was 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and a run scored. Eli Surber went 0-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored.
Jake McDaniel got the start for the Rebels, allowing five earned runs on nine hits while striking out two and walking two in seven innings. Brandon Boaz pitched the final two-thirds of an inning and took the loss, allowing one earned run on two hits.
