McKENZIE, BRUCETON (March 29-30) — The McKenzie High School Rebels swept a home-away district baseball series with Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central Monday and Tuesday. The Rebels hosted Monday and pulled away late for a 9-4 victory. Tuesday, the Tigers hosted, but the McKenzie offense struck early and sealed a 13-1 win with a big sixth inning.

Rebels Take Two From Tigers

McKENZIE, BRUCETON (March 29-30) — The McKenzie High School Rebels swept a home-away district baseball series with Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central Monday and Tuesday. The Rebels hosted Monday and pulled away late for a 9-4 victory. Tuesday, the Tigers hosted, but the McKenzie offense struck early and sealed a 13-1 win with a big sixth inning.

Monday, the visiting Tigers plated three runs in the top of the first, but the Rebels answered in kind to tie it in the home half. McKenzie tacked on three more in the bottom of the fourth. The Tigers scored a run in the top of the fifth, and the Rebels pushed three across in the sixth.

Rebel Ty Anderson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Jake McDaniel was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and two RBIs. Collin McClearen went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. Hayden Hixon was 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base. Phillip Smith went 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Ethan Travis was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Eli Surber went 1-for-4 with a run scored.

Tiger Malik Mathis was 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Preston Hollingsworth went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Paul Crews was 1-for-3 with a stolen base. James Noe went 0-for-1 with two walks and a run scored.

Jake McDaniel earned the complete-game win for McKenzie, allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits while striking out six and walking two.

Paul Crews took the complete-game loss for Central, allowing nine runs (six earned) on ten hits while striking out one and walking four in six innings.

Tuesday, on the road, McKenzie struck first with three runs in the top of the first and added a run in each of the third, fourth and fifth frames. The Rebels blew the game open with seven in the sixth, and Central plated a lone run in the bottom of the sixth.

Ty Anderson led the Rebel offense, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs scored and a stolen base. Brandon Boaz went 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBIs and a run scored. Eli Surber was 1-for-2 with a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored. Ethan Travis went 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored. Jackson Cassidy was 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. Collin McClearen went 1-for-1 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. Phillip Smith was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Zayden McCaslin went 1-for-3. Jake McDaniel was 0-for-1 with two walks, an RBI and two runs scored.

Tiger Preston Howell was 2-for-3 with a double. Malik Mathis went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Daniel Inman was 1-for-3 with an RBI. James Noe went 1-for-2. Brennen Hollingsworth was 1-for-3.

Rebel Jackson Cassidy earned the win, allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out two and walking none in five innings. Braden Birmingham threw the final inning, allowing no runs on two hits with a strikeout and no walks.

Tristan Patterson took the complete-game loss for Central, allowing 13 runs (eleven earned) on 12 hits while striking out two and walking six in six innings.
