MHS Rebels Win Pair at TN River Classic

WAVERLY (March 16) — The McKenzie High School Rebel baseball team picked up a pair of wins Tuesday at the TN River Classic.
First, the Rebels defeated the host Waverly Tigers 8-2. McKenzie struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the first, then followed with five in the second frame and one in the fourth. The Tigers got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth and added another in the seventh.
Jake McDaniel led McKenzie’s offense, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Ty Anderson was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Ethan Travis was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Jackson Cassidy was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Phillip Smith was 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Zayden McCaslin was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Brandon Boaz was 1-for-2. Hayden Hixon was 1-for-4 with a double. Jon Moore was 0-for-1 with a run scored.
Jackson Cassidy earned the win for the Rebels, allowing on earned run on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts in three innings of work. Phillip Smith threw four innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits with two strikeouts.

Ryan Patterson took the loss for Waverly, allowing eight runs (four earned) on eleven hits while walking one and striking out four over seven innings.
Next, the Rebels shut out Mt. Pleasant 12-0 in four innings. McKenzie plated three runs in the top of the first and added another in the second before breaking the game open with seven runs in the third. The Rebels tacked on another run in the fourth.
Hayden Hixon went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. Ethan Travis was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Collin McLearen was 1-for-1 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. Jackson Cassidy went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Ty Anderson was 0-for-1 with two walks, three RBIs and a stolen base. Jake McDaniel was 1-for-1 with two walks and an RBI. Phillip Smith was 0-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. Eli Surber was 0-for-1 with two walks, a run scored and a stolen base. Brandon Boaz was 0-for-0 with a walk, an RBI, a run scored and three stolen bases.
Jake McDaniel earned the complete-game shutout, allowing three hits while striking out six and walking none in four innings.
Gavin Whitehead took the loss for Mt. Pleasant, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on one hit while striking out four and walking nine in two innings. Brady Clark threw the final two innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits and three walks.
